Hands-free player notes
Updated October 22, 2026
Hands-free player notes let a soccer coach speak an observation at training, in a match or at a showcase and have it transcribed and filed to the right player automatically, on their own roster or on a recruiting board. TalentEcho is the iPhone app that does this. No typing, and no looking away from the field.
Hands-free player notes: a coach speaks an observation, and it's transcribed and filed to the right player automatically, whether that's someone on their own roster or a recruit. The coach never stops watching the game to write.
Why coaches lose observations
You see the moment that matters. The left back steps in and wins it twice in two minutes; the number nine keeps drifting wide and leaving you isolated up top. Then play moves on, and by the time you have a free second the detail is gone, or blurred together with three other things that happened since.
The usual fixes all cost you the game. A notebook means your head is down. A notes app means you are typing with your thumbs while the ball is in play. Waiting until halftime means trusting your memory to hold fifteen separate observations across eleven players. Hands-free player notes remove that trade: you say the thing out loud the instant you see it, and keep watching.
How hands-free player notes work in TalentEcho
The whole point is that capturing a note takes less attention than writing one. Here is the full loop.
- Tap record. Before kickoff, training, or a showcase game, you start a session in TalentEcho and put the phone down or in a pocket.
- Speak the observation. Say what you see and name the player or their shirt number. For example: "Alvarez is tucked too far inside, we're exposed if they switch it quickly."
- It files itself. TalentEcho transcribes the note on your iPhone and files it to that player's profile. A note about the whole team becomes a team note; a tactical reminder becomes a key point.
- Review later. After the session you read notes by player, turn them into out-of-ten ratings, and watch your depth chart or recruiting board reorder itself around what you actually observed.
The example above is an invented player, used to show the format. You can read the full method for taking notes during training and matches, or the method for keeping track of recruits at a showcase.
One capture method, both jobs
Most tools pick a side. Recruiting software is built for the office; voice-note apps are built for your own team at training. TalentEcho uses the same spoken capture for both, and keeps them separate so a recruit note never lands in your squad and vice versa.
For recruiting
Scan a team sheet or roster into a ranked recruiting board, then dictate as you watch. Each recruit accumulates your own notes and a score built from your evaluations, so when you leave a showcase you have a ranked board instead of a stack of half-filled sheets. Compare the approach with college soccer recruiting software.
For your own team
Set your lineup, record the match by voice, and rate players out of ten. Notes build a season history per player, and ratings rank your depth chart automatically. Compare the approach with other voice note apps for coaches.

Common questions
What are hands-free player notes?
Observations a coach speaks out loud and has transcribed and filed to the right player automatically, without typing or looking away from the field. TalentEcho files them to your own roster or to a recruiting board.
How does TalentEcho know which player a note belongs to?
You name the player or say their shirt number while you talk. TalentEcho matches the note to that player on your roster or recruiting board. Notes about the team rather than one player are filed as team notes.
Does it work in a noisy stadium?
Dictation is designed for sideline use, where there is crowd and bench noise. Speak clearly and close to the phone, and review or correct any transcript after the session.
Is TalentEcho for recruiting or for coaching my own team?
Both. The same capture method files notes to a recruiting board or to your own squad, and the two are kept separate inside the app.
What happens to the audio?
Dictation is transcribed on your iPhone. The privacy and player data page explains exactly what is stored and who can see it.
How much does it cost?
Pro is $14.99 per month or $99.99 per year for one coach. Team is $24.99 per month or $179.99 per year for a staff. Both include a 1-month free trial.
